Cuckoo!
Next up is a performance with Arion Baroque Orchestra in Montreal from October 17 to 19 for Cuckoo!, a fun concert celebrating the “Italian invasion” of London and the charms of the Italian Baroque, featuring two concertos under the guest direction of Italian violin wizard Enrico Onofri. I’ll be performing Handel’s organ concerto, “The Cuckoo and the Nightingale” with its famous 2nd movement imitating bird song. There are also several points where the soloist gets to play ‘ad libitum’ – or at will! Handel himself was considered perhaps the greatest organist of his age. His contemporary John Hawkins wrote that he had “A fine and delicate touch, a volant finger, and a ready delivery of passages the most difficult, are the praise of inferior artists.” I hope to do him justice!
